RRB ALP Recruitment 2025 – Vacancy Details
The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have announced vacancies for the Assistant Loco Pilot position under the RRB ALP Recruitment 2025 drive.

Educational Qualification
Candidates applying for the RRB ALP Recruitment 2025 must ensure they possess the required educational qualifications as of the closing date for online application submission (11-05-2025). Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible.
The required minimum educational qualifications for the Assistant Loco Pilot post are:
- Option A: Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognised institutions of NCVT/SCVT in the trades of Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Mechanic. (OR)
- Option B: Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship (CCAA) in the trades mentioned above. (OR)
- Option C: Matriculation / SSLC plus three years Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile Engineering or a combination of various streams of these Engineering disciplines from a recognised Institution in lieu of ITI. (OR)
- Option D: A Degree in the Engineering disciplines mentioned above (Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile Engineering) will also be acceptable in lieu of a Diploma in Engineering.
Salary Details
Selected candidates for the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) position under the RRB ALP Recruitment 2025 will be placed in Level-2 of the 7th CPC pay matrix.
The initial pay for the ALP post is Rs. 19,900 per month. In addition to the initial pay, candidates will be eligible for other allowances as admissible under Railway rules.
Please note that selected candidates will have to undergo mandatory training, during which only a stipend will be paid.
Age Limit for RRB ALP Recruitment 2025
Candidates interested in the RRB ALP Recruitment 2025 must meet the specified age criteria as of July 1, 2025.
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Maximum Age: 30 years
The date of birth of candidates should fall between the dates mentioned below (both dates inclusive):

Relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable for reserved categories as follows:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
- Ex-Servicemen: 3 years (UR/EWS), 6 years (OBC-NCL), 8 years (SC/ST) after deduction of service length.
- PwBD: Relaxations apply as per government norms (though the ALP post is noted as ‘Not Suitable’ for PwBD ).
- Other categories: Relaxations are also available for serving Railway staff, widows/divorced women, Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAA), etc., as detailed in the official notification.
Candidates must ensure their date of birth matches the one recorded in their Matriculation/SSLC certificate.

Application Fee
The application fee structure for the RRB ALP Recruitment 2025 is as follows:
- For all candidates (except categories below): Rs. 500/-
- Refund: Rs. 400/- will be refunded after appearing in the First Stage CBT (CBT-1), deducting bank charges.
- For candidates belonging to SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, Female, Transgender, Minorities, or Economically Backward Class (EBC): Rs. 250/-
- Refund: This entire fee of Rs. 250/- will be refunded after appearing in CBT-1, deducting applicable bank charges.
Note: Fee refund is only applicable to candidates who actually appear for the CBT-1.
Mode of Payment: The application fee must be paid ONLINE only through internet banking, debit/credit cards, or UPI. No other mode of payment will be accepted. Candidates must provide correct bank details in the application form for the refund process.
How to Apply
For RRB ALP Recruitment 2025, eligible candidates must submit their applications ONLINE through the official websites of the participating Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) only. Applications sent through any other mode will not be accepted.
Steps to Apply Online:
- Visit Official RRB Website: Go to the official website of the RRB you wish to apply to (links provided below).
- Create Account: If you haven’t created an account for RRB recruitments in 2024/2025, you must first create one. Use an active personal mobile number and valid email ID for OTP verification and future communication. Fill account creation details carefully as they cannot be modified later. Aadhaar authentication is advised. If you already have an account from a 2024 RRB CEN (before April 2025), use the same credentials to log in.
- Fill Application Form: Log in and complete the online application form with accurate details. Choose only ONE RRB.
- Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of:
- Recent colour passport-size photograph (35mm x 45mm, white background, 50-150 KB JPG/JPEG, not older than 2 months) as per specifications.
- Signature (running handwriting, black ink on white paper, 30-49 KB JPG/JPEG) as per specifications.
- SC/ST Certificate (PDF, below 400 KB) if requesting free travel pass.
- Pay Fee: Pay the applicable examination fee online.
- Submit Application: Review the application thoroughly before final submission. An application is considered complete only after successful fee payment confirmation.
- Print Application: Keep a printout of the submitted application form for future reference.
Modification: Candidates can modify their application (except ‘Create Account’ details and chosen RRB) between 14-05-2025 and 23-05-2025 by paying a modification fee of Rs. 250/- (non-refundable) for each occasion.
Selection Process
The recruitment process for the RRB ALP Recruitment 2025 involves the following stages:
- First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-1): A screening test to shortlist candidates for CBT-2. Marks are not counted for the final panel. It includes Mathematics, Mental Ability, General Science, and General Awareness. There’s negative marking (1/3rd mark for wrong answers).
- Second Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-2): Consists of two parts:
- Part A: Marks scored here count for shortlisting for subsequent stages. Syllabus includes Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, and Basic Science & Engineering.
- Part B: Qualifying in nature (35% marks required). It consists of questions from the relevant technical trade syllabus.
- Negative marking (1/3rd mark) applies to both Part A and Part B.
- Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Applicable only for candidates shortlisted for the ALP post based on CBT-2 Part A marks (provided they qualify for Part B). Candidates must qualify in each test battery of CBAT (minimum T-score of 42). CBAT has no negative marking and is conducted in English and Hindi only. Candidates need to produce a vision certificate during CBAT. The final merit list uses 70% weightage from CBT-2 Part A and 30% from CBAT scores.
- Document Verification (DV): Candidates shortlisted based on CBAT performance (equal to the number of vacancies) are called for DV. Original documents must be produced.
- Medical Examination (ME): Candidates must pass the requisite medical fitness test (A-1 standard for ALP) conducted by the Railway Administration.Candidates found medically unsuitable will not be appointed. LASIK surgery is disqualifying for ALP.
Other Important Details
- Medical Standards: The ALP post requires A-1 medical standard, including Distant Vision: 6/6, 6/6 without glasses with fogging test (must not accept +2D), Near Vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses, and must pass tests for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, Mesopic vision etc. Candidates who have undergone Lasik or similar refractive error surgery are not eligible.
- Negative Marking: Applicable in CBT-1 and CBT-2 (@1/3rd mark for each wrong answer). No negative marking in CBAT.
- Normalization: Marks will be normalized for CBTs held in multiple shifts.
- Single RRB Application: Candidates can apply to only one RRB. Multiple applications will lead to rejection and debarment.
- Communication: All communication will be through registered mobile number and email ID.
